CASS Track and Fielders OFSAA Bound!

Twenty-eight CASS athletes competed at NOSSA Track and Field Wed. and Thurs. May 25-26 at Laurentian University in Sudbury.  Despite rain and 5C temperatures Thurs., 4 athletes managed to qualify for OFSAA June 2-4 in Sudbury.  Rob GAllinger won the Sr. Boys Aggregate title with 2 others for his first place finish in High Jump ( a new PB at 1.92m), 2nd place in Triple Jump, and 3rd place finish in Long Jump.  Karissa Barbarie tied for 2nd place Jr. Girls Aggregate for her first place finish in Long Jump, and her second place finish in 200m, and 3rd place finish in the 100m.  Sam Good also tied for third place Jr. Boys Aggregate for his 2nd place finish in Javelin and the 300m hurdles, and 4th place in the 110m hurdles.  Midget boy Brandon Shawana placed 2nd in the Javelin. The team placed 11th overall amongst 38 teams, the highest of all the NSSSA schools.  Full results are available on the NOSSA website at nossa.rainbowschools.ca.

NSSSA Track and Field Results 2011

Fifty students travelled to Elliot Lake today for NSSSA Track and Field and 29 qualified for NOSSA! The team placed second to Espanola but despite 2 aggregate winners and 5 out of 6 possible 4x100m relay teams qualifying for NOSSA.  Aggregate winners were Karissa Barbarie (Jr. Girls) for her first place finishes in 100m, 200m and long jump, and Rob Gallinger (Sr. Boys) for his first place finishes in the long, high and triple jumps.  CASS also qualified!  Full results will be posted at school and can be viewed shortly on the NSSSA website.  Check out the photo album posted to your right!  NOSSA Track and Field is being held next week on Wed. and Thurs. Track and Field Practice Starts Friday!

You read that right.....track and field practice starts this Friday.  Why so early?  Track and field, more than other sports, has a lot to do with measuring a student's athleticism.  This isn't something that can be changed in few short weeks in the spring.  Meaningful improvements have to happen in little bits, over a long period of time.  Practices will only be 30 minutes long, and will be held once a week on Fridays at lunch.  Making practice will be easy, although the same can't be said for getting through practice.  If we start now, that only gives us 40 practices until our first meet!!  Hope to see everyone there!  If you have any questions, please see Mr. Gowlett.
