Congrats Shawn Struik!

Shawn Struik rowed an incredible 1.22:1 500m today on the concept 2 breaking a school record!!!  His time was ranked on the Concept 2 website which shows worldwide results.  Great job Shawn! UNREAL!

Classes Travel to Ho Shin Sool and Catalyst

Last Friday, senior PE classes braved the travel to the Soo to live a day of a professional athlete.  The morning consisted of two firebreather workouts at Catalyst thanks to coach Ty.  Then, in the afternoon, the crew headed to Ho Shin Sool for a self defence clinic thanks to Master Jim.  Everyone had a blast and went full throttle!!!  Thank you to everyone!  Check out the pics in the photo album!!

 

Defiance Trailer

The grade 11 and 12 class put together a Defiance trailer.  Defiance is the next fitness challenge here at CASS open to all members of the community.  You can find the trailer by clicking on the 'CASS Fitness' link on the left hand side of this page.  More information to follow in the coming weeks.

 

Defiance - A New Challenge at CASS

DEFIANCE

Every rep counts…..we’ve said it, we’ve yelled it, we’ve seen it on t-shirts.  It’s a great notion, but when it comes down to it, how much will you really suffer for one more rep?  Will you train for months to add 3 reps to your score?  Defiance is going to test your will.  You’ll only have 90 seconds an event.  Yup, 90 seconds.  No time to waste, no time to pace, no time to rest, just shut your brain off and sprint.  90 seconds to build up a lead that will only add up to a few reps.  Significant differences will be measured with single digits.  Every rep is going to have a brand new meaning.

Caleb's on the Wall!

This just in......Caleb Stinson, a grade 10 student, just pulled off an incredible score of 13 on the beep test. For his efforts, Caleb's name goes up on the fitness wall of fame. When asked, Caleb responded that he is well aware that the record is 14.5.......and he says that's his next goal....

WOW! Can you say 1:24.3!!!!

In an incredible turn of events, our new Phys.Ed. teacher, Mr. Wilson, had his competitive fires lit with Kevin's performance.  With garbage can in tow in case things went south, Mr. Wilson prepared and pulled another incredible 500m in 1:24.3!!!!!!!  Wow, I don't know what these people are eating around here, but we could be on the verge of something big.  Way to go CASS!!!

Big Changes and a BIG RESULT...Kevin Jones pulls 1:24.8!!

Just recently CASS athletics has added to their weightroom with some new equipment.  New bars, new weights, a new GHD, new chin up bars and probably what is  the most popular addition....a new C2 Rower.  For those of you new to the fitness world, the C2 Rower is a standardized rower that is used around the world........and the most incredible part of this story...Kevin Jones, a Husky basketball player, on his third attempt ever.... rowed 500m in an incredible  1:24.8!!!!!! Adding to this accomplishment is that on an online training site that tracks the progress of rowers worldwide, Kevin's performance ranks 77th!!!  Way to go CASS!!!!

 

 
 

100 Pull Ups in 3:32!!

In his first ever Angie attempt ( 100 pull-ups, 100 push-ups, 100 sit-ups, 100 squats for time), Zach Reid pulled of 100 pull-ups in 3:32 and then continued to finish the workout in an incredible 16:19s!!!!!  Watch out for big things from this kid!!!! Congratulations Zach!

  

Fran Champs!

Over the weekend, Mr. Gowlett and Nichole Kinzel competed at Catalyst Fitness in the Sault in the first ever "Franfest".  Fran is a crossfit workout that has gained notoriety in the fitness world as one of  the most difficult  benchmarks of fitness. CASS' Fran team of Nichole and Mr. Gowlett transferred through three rounds of the infamous workout to post the fastest time in the finals and were crowned the first ever Franfest champs.  Congratulations.
