Defiance was created to be a different type of workout, a workout where you really get to see how long you can go fast. If you're a track specialist....we're talking about the 400m and the 800m. If you're a hockey player, we're talking playing two shifts in a row. If you're rowing, we're talking about 500m. Energy demands will be different, it will be a new kind of intensity...90s sprint, rest for 10min, then do it again. As a coach, I'm always thinking about how things are going to be different, and how I can prepare to be at my best. These are some of the things that come to mind.
Nutrition: How will you maintain energy and focus? You will be warming up, competing, and cooling down 8 times. What and how will you eat? Including your initial warm-up, the events will last all morning. That will only give you about 15 minutes in between each event….not enough time to eat a lot, but if you’re not careful, you can run out of steam by the end.
Being ready: You’ll have to start each event ready to go. You won’t be able to pace yourself and then pick it up. You need to make sure that you’re set to go full throttle for each event….this is a drag race.
Mental toughness: When you do a WOD, you experience some anxiety about the WOD, overcome that anxiety, and then perform once. This event will demand that you prepare mentally at least 8 times. From a mental preparation point of view, you will be performing at least 8 WODs in one day......wow.
Most of all....Have Fun!!
See you soon.
