Come Cheer on our Medal Bearers!

We have 5 students, 1 staff, and a CASS Grad that are part of the 25th Anniversary Medal Relay celebrating Rick Hansen's Man in Motion tour.  Caray and Brielle Ford will be medal bearers in Thessalon on Sunday, Dec. 18 starting at the Community Hall at 11:30am;  Mrs. Hunt-Ford will be Bruce Mines from the 50km sign to the flashing lights at the 638, and will handoff to Hailey Bomhof (Gr. 12 student from St. Joe), who will in turn hand off to Lexie Lajambe (Gr. 12 student from Bruce Mines) before the relay heads to Echo Bay.  In Echo Bay, Quinn Currie (Gr. 9 student) and Mrs.Tricia (Cain) Callahan, elementary school teacher at Johnson-Tarbutt and CASS Grad from St. Joe, will be medal bearers before the relay heads to the Sault for the End of Day Celebration at the John Rhodes Centre.

These medal bearers have all been selected as "difference makers" in their communities and at school. Come support them together at the community nearest you to help celebrate all that Rick Hansen has achieved over the past 25 years to help increase awareness about spinal cord injuries and removing barriers for accessibility, and to commit to making the world a better place for everyone.

Athletic Banquet 2011

 
Congratulations CASS on a very successfull year in athletics.  The celebration of this event took place on Thurs. Jun. 9 and Kate Beaulieu has now taken the title of "Spearchucker" from last year's recipient, Mr. Reid, for her "peeping" incident that happened in the showers after a wrestling tournament.  Kate was also honoured the previous evening at the ACT Awards Banquet in the Sault as the "Outstanding Female Athlete in Wrestling".  This was the first time this award was given out recognizing Girls Wrestling at the Girls Athletic Banquet and Kate is now the first in both Sault and CASS athletic history to have this honour.  Team awards were given out next, followed by individual awards and Athletes of the Year.  The following are the individual winners:

Sr. Boys Athlete of the year: Kurtis Barbarie (marking the first time ever that a mother, father and son have made in on the gym wall-no pressure Karissa!:)

CASS Track and Fielders OFSAA Bound!

Twenty-eight CASS athletes competed at NOSSA Track and Field Wed. and Thurs. May 25-26 at Laurentian University in Sudbury.  Despite rain and 5C temperatures Thurs., 4 athletes managed to qualify for OFSAA June 2-4 in Sudbury.  Rob GAllinger won the Sr. Boys Aggregate title with 2 others for his first place finish in High Jump ( a new PB at 1.92m), 2nd place in Triple Jump, and 3rd place finish in Long Jump.  Karissa Barbarie tied for 2nd place Jr. Girls Aggregate for her first place finish in Long Jump, and her second place finish in 200m, and 3rd place finish in the 100m.  Sam Good also tied for third place Jr. Boys Aggregate for his 2nd place finish in Javelin and the 300m hurdles, and 4th place in the 110m hurdles.  Midget boy Brandon Shawana placed 2nd in the Javelin. The team placed 11th overall amongst 38 teams, the highest of all the NSSSA schools.  Full results are available on the NOSSA website at nossa.rainbowschools.ca.

CASS Grad to Compete in King of The Cage

Athlete Profile: Dalton MacFarlane  

Fights: This is his first!

Weight Class: 185 

 Opponent: Eric Holman 

Training Regimen: last couple of weeks, has been doing 2-a-days between catalyst and Ho Shin Sool. Combining sparring with cardio conditioning and strength training. I've been very fortunate training with great athletes/fighters like Jeff Elliott and Adrian. Guys who take time to help out and teach what they know. Having guys like Ray and Trevor teaching with their tremendous experience in ground game has improved my all-around skills.

 

Fran Champs!

Over the weekend, Mr. Gowlett and Nichole Kinzel competed at Catalyst Fitness in the Sault in the first ever "Franfest".  Fran is a crossfit workout that has gained notoriety in the fitness world as one of  the most difficult  benchmarks of fitness. CASS' Fran team of Nichole and Mr. Gowlett transferred through three rounds of the infamous workout to post the fastest time in the finals and were crowned the first ever Franfest champs.  Congratulations.

CASS Stacks Up!

One hundred and three CASS students pitched in today to attempt a new Guinness World Record for "Most People Sport Stacking at Multiple Locations in One Day".  CASS was 1 of over 1500 schools registered with nearly 270 000 projected stackers from 26 different countries in an attempt to break last year's record of 222 560 stackers and meet the target this year of a quarter of a million.  In one hour, CASS's stackers did 223 'laps' of 6 up and down stacks of 12 cups for a total of 1358 stacks completed and 16 296 cups stacked!  This blew away our record last year of 60 participants with 12 000 cups stacked.  Gr. 10 student Ethan Stevens was once again the fastest stacker with a time of 4.68s for the 3-6-3 stack format, and Spencer McLeod stacked the most cups today doing 8.5 laps in per.3 and another 6 in per.4.  A Guinness World Record Verification sheet will be sent in and we will hear in a few weeks whether we helped set a new world record!

Guinness World Record at CASS....

On Thursday, November 12th, from 11:30 and 12:30, students at CASS will help set a new sport stacking guinness world record along with 250,000+ of their closest friends!!  During the course of the day, each sport stacker will be up stacking and down stacking specially designed cups called Speed Stacks in prescribed patterns at lighting speeds for at least 30 minutes.

CASS Grad to Run Marathon in Greece!
