One of the new projects that has begun to develop since the inception of our new website has been a site dedicated to the CASS coaches. The site is under construction and will be available when the majority of the information is up to date. As a sneak preview, here is the coaching bio provided by Mr. White, one the CASS greats.
Richard White was one of the original teachers that started here when CASS opened up, has since retired, and supply teaches to this day. Mr. White played several sports and coached a midget basketball team when he was in grade 13. During his time here at CASS, Mr. White coached the golf team, assisted the hockey team, and was an intramural house master for over 15 years. When asked about his coaching highlights, Mr. White had this to say:
"The Knights and Panthers were very successful houses winning many intramural titles, often several semesters in a row. The Knights and Panthers seldom won the individual titles, our success was based on participation. My smartest contribution was identifying house stiks who were responsible for making sure the students participated. I believe those stiks were among the very best. It should be pointed out that we were successful with only four stiks a semester.
I have many fond memories of competing with and against students and staff in intramurals. One moment that stands out occurred on the final day of a spring semester. The standings were extremely close. I had just begun a block IV history class when Charlie Cooke appeared at the door. He announced that I had to participate in the swamp run if we ( the Panthers) wanted to win. I did, and we did. Thank you Charlie.
I would like to acknowledge the contributions made by John Catterick (responsible for establishing the intramural program) as well as the members of the P.E. Department who have devoted hundreds of hours of their own time to the students and the intramural program. The intramural program was and remains a significant aspect of CASS life."
Thank you Mr. White.
